Port Logan
Travel just a few miles drive and you’re at Port Logan, with its harbour, beaches, and famous natural fish pond. You’ve got to try Port Logan’s amazing homemade ice cream, and why not visit the famous and inspiring Logan Botanical Gardens and its palm tree lined driveway.
Portpatrick
Portpatrick is a most beautiful picturesque traditional fishing village, with it’s brightly coloured buildings and a stunning harbour. Go and visit the Lifeboat Station, the launch of Dumfries and Galloway’s main lifeboat. There’s lots to do here. Some great walks, mini golf, bowling, tennis, amusements, and several of the best pubs and restaurants in the area. Not far from here you can visit the Stoneykirk Aviation Museum where you will find some famous relics of the past. If you enjoy visiting lighthouses then go and see Killantringan Lighthouse and Corsewall Lighthouse.
Sandhead
Sandhead is a village with a beautiful stretch of sand which is so quiet and peaceful you could have the entire beach to yourselves. The Tig Na Mara pub offers some of the best home cooked food as well as offering a takeaway service, and you can have a nice relaxing drink while the kids play in the play area.
The Sands of Luce
The Sands of Luce Caravan Park is where you will find The Lighthouse, a pub and restaurant famous for it’s woodfire cooked pizzas. Here you can also go pony trekking from the Golden Sands Trekking Centre. If you don’t fancy riding a pony then why not try the Alpaca Experience.
Stranraer
Stranraer is the main town of Dumfires and Galloway and is where you will find all the main shops and shopping centre. Take a picnic and find a place where you can sit and take in the spectacular views looking down the Cairn Ryan Lock. If you fancy a day trip across to Ireland you can take a ferry from here. These ferries operate daily and regularly. If you’re feeling a bit energetic you can either visit the indoor swimming pool and sports centre. Alternatively, if it’s raining, why not take in a film at the cinema. Stranraer offers a great deal of things to do and has two parks, a boating lake and beaches. If you want to go slightly further afield then why not visit Ballantrae, Girvan, or Ayr?
Rawson Cottage is a great place to stay for your visit to Dumfries and Galloway. You’ll enjoy the warm climate and tropical palm trees, and at night the skies are so clear and the stars so bright that you can imagine that you can see the centre of the Milky Way. You might even catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights, the great Aurora Borialis. Whatever you do, you’re going to have a great time here at Drummore!
